In most of the posts I've seen around here, most people perceive women with long nails as being dominant, strong women who like to use their nails to inflict pain or some variation of that.
I tend to see women with long nails completely different. I perceive women with long nails as being more on the submissive and delicate side. Women with long nails need to be careful to protect them from damage, avoiding doing things that might cause painful breaks or discomfort. I see them relying on their husband, boyfriend or others to assist them in doing things for them. I see them as avoiding activities that would put their nails in any type of danger.
I did see a post a few years ago, I think it was a story if I am correct. But it had statement in it along the lines of "a women with very long nails is like a woman in bondage." I took that to mean that woman with long nails is somewhat restrained in what they are able to physically do.
I wonder if others around here see it the way I see it. Just curious.

No that's a perfectly fine approach to the fetish. As you say everyone has a different view. I wish you success in pursuing that approach.
Re: Some of us are different
There is room at the table for all of us. Some attach personality traits to women with nails, behaviors (scratching, dominating), and there are those with secondary attributes that intensify the compulsion. I, for one naturally gravitate toward the symmetry of artificial nails. On rare occasion, I get a response of "Ew, fake" that none of us should take personally as our peccadilloes and fixations are somewhere in the hypothalamus, not an intentional, forced fetish.

Hey davebflat,
I may be wrong, but I will venture a guess that the story you are referring to is a chapter in the ‘Dream Chasers’ series I’ve started ‘a few years ago’.
Nothing wrong with your preference for the symmetry of artificial nails, I can totally get behind it.
Through writing I've managed to rationalize quite a big chunk of what it is that triggers me in respect to long nails and your description is consistent with one of the most ‘powerful’ ways (there are more) that resonate with me. I strongly encourage anyone to express their preferences using clear and unambiguous words. Really helps to know oneself. Stories are one of the really rewarding ways to do it.
Don't think you're among the readers that gave me the feedback that sparked a flurry of emails which helped me further rationalize the nail fetish that defines me (and quite possibly helped them too to do the same), but I'd love to read more of your thoughts on this, so email me, I love a good chat on this topic. Or post here I'll be sure to reply.
Cheers.

Could someone take a shot at psycho-analyzing my preference for fun?
I'm in the long nail beds appreciation side of things, which if you think about it is completely different from the traditional long nails fetish. My preference is for there to be no nail polish and for the nails to be trimmed short to reveal long nail beds in all their glory if she has them. At the surface level my LNB obsession makes no sense to me. But it is one of the core aspects of what I consider attractive in a woman, and the one thing that can turn me on more than any other physical feature.
To put it a bit superficially, a 6 or 7 with long nail beds is a 10 in my eyes, while an 8-10 with short nail beds is no longer than attractive to me. And the thing with LNB's is either she has them or she doesn't. There's no way to lengthen nail beds, so there are only a small percentage of women who have them.

The way I understand it is that fetishism in general is something akin to ASMR with the peculiarity that the ‘dopamine’-inducing (reward) response (which is ‘autonomous’) is more times than not a sexual one. Again, most times than not, it's a result of ‘conditioning’ through repeated exposure to the fetishized cue in circumstances that were already linked to a sexual response. It gets hardwired in the brain when puberty hits if at that time the soon-to-be-fetishized cue is linked to a sexual-partner stereotype.
Example: during infancy, a female role model that makes a strong emotional imprint on a boy’s psyche, most likely one that was encountered every day/regularly (family, kindergarten, school etc) has/had very long nailbeds. It doesn't have to be a good or bad emotional experience, just strong enough to be ‘engraved’. In an infant, a few weeks of exposure to this gets it really hardwired in the brain. Most likely you cannot remember it. What you *will* remember, is when you’ve started noticing yourself looking out for long nailbeds in a female. Which doesn't have to be a sex-drive yet, just the brain’s built-in pattern-matching function.
And then the hormones wake up (puberty), sex becomes a strong directive and long nailbeds are already associated (in the brain) with one of the defining traits of a female/sex partner. Somewhere under the hood, long nailbed-ed women get ‘an extra molecule’ of dopamine by comparison to others when encountered, because it’s ‘bonus points’ on the pre-built female(=sex) checklist.
Another couple of years of repeats with this checklist and your brain is guaranteed to create the most efficient neural pathway from perceived female long nailbeds (sight sound touch etc) to sexual arousal. Not your fault. It's how the brain works.
Fast forward a few more years, the skill to spot long nailbeds gets so refined that you filter out women which do not have them. You basically stop seeing women with nailbeds that aren't long. And so the baseline for ‘long’ gets redefined. The definition of ‘long’ evolves to longer and longer.
Replace in above example nailbeds with nail-length, nail-shape, nail color, nail-strength even nail-cutting etc and you get all the flavors of nail-fetishism. Extend it to hands, feet, shoes, clothing, hair, jewelry etc see where I'm getting?
A note of caution: this is just *my* understanding of it. It may be inaccurate or downright wrong. Take it with a grain of salt.
Would love to read long-nailbed fetish literature, if you know of any?
Cheers.

Nice. I do have a few differences here though. My fetish (seemingly) started suddenly, and I can remember exactly when. It was when a female classmate put her finger right next to mine on an assignment, when we were doing group work in class, and I could see her nail bed was way longer than mine, side by side. It was right at that moment that I felt a massive dopamine hit, and it was from then that I started looking for long nail beds (I didn't even know what they were called then). Before that moment it wasn't something I ever noticed or thought about. It was never a factor, but after that it suddenly was.
Prior to this incident I already had an inclination for femdom, and I think my brain at that moment automatically associated longer nailbeds with dominance in a woman. Also I'm thankful that my standards for LNB's haven't kept inflating over time. I still like moderately long to very long ones the same as I did from that day. Any that are longer than mine provide a dopamine hit, but of course the longer the better.
Unfortunately I've never come across long nailbed fetish literature. It's an extremely rare preference, and this forum is literally the only English language forum where we even have a thread. One of us in the LNB thread will have to go about writing some if there is to be any literature.

I see and relish it either way albeit shy of the far extremes of both; and nails must be natural (or I should say they used to...very recently the techniques for fakes have been producing some results that are difficult even for a connosieur like myself to discern at first glance
In practical matters though, an adult woman who uses her nails to inflict pain except in self-defence would likely be found only in the BDSM world (or an insane asylum or prison
