How to use AI image/video generators?

Postby longnailconnoisseur » Mon Jul 03, 2023 7:20 pm

How do I use AI image/video generators to generate pictures or videos of long nails? I tried a few and the output from my feeble attempts were very poor, at best.

Was wondering if some of you have done it?

Many thanks!

This is the best I have managed on Midjourney

@Andrew ...not bad at all... :)
The hardest part is to start. The rest comes naturally somehow.

The problem with this is that AI generators are bad at hands. VERY bad at hands. There is just too much variety in what hands look like, what position the fingers are holding, how long the nails are, what color the nails are, even the difference between bed and free edge, etc., that the AI just doesn't have a good grasp of what "a hand with long nails" even looks like.
Getting a good result would probably require an AI model trained almost exclusively on a dataset of hands with long nails, otherwise the hands just aren't going to come out right.

Amazing reply. Thank you so much! The funny thing is that by combining everyone's pictures here, we must have a million pictures of long fingernails, and we could train a long fingernail AI...

For those looking for a bit more know-how on how to use midjourney.

There IS hope. That is if you put enough time (and a little money to buy server time) and 'train' it by giving feedback on what it blurts out. Example:

I put in a prompt which included (among other... unrelated biases) :

young woman, long fingernails, long fingers, fingertips, fingers spread, claws, clawed, curved fingernails, extended fingernails, longest fingernails, very long fingernails, inches long fingernails, elongated fingernails, elongated fingers, elongated fingertips, finger outgrowth, finger elongation, finger extensions, fingernails extensions, press-on fingernails, super long fingernails, unnatural fingernails, nail growth

and it produced this:

Image

I requested variations of first image and it came up with this:

Image

Then on the third

Image

Re-issued request because to me it was a regression

Image

Went with the fourth

Image

Went with the third

Image

Went with the second and for about 10 retries it did not produce anything worth mentioning until this:

Image

Went with the second and retried a again a few times

Image

Notice how the nail-tips of the first image are somehow ...unfinished. So I bet on that one and retried until this one.

Image

Went with third and issued retries again a few times until this came up.

Image

Went with the third and it took some more tens of retries until it started producing longer nails a bit more consistently like this.

Image

And then I reached my server time limit for this month (when I started this round probably I had less than a quarter of a monthly credit, I toyed around with it for about two weeks on and off, learning how to get around).

All of the above took a few seconds every few minutes when I would switch in between tasks on a regular business day.

Anybody else who'd care to share? ;)

It's amazing how fast the AI technologies are improving.
