Linda Spilker

Another month, another passing. It seems that like any community this one is maturing to the point of losing founder members, and like Herb Lasker last month, Linny was very influential. Whilst many people were emerging from the shadows about their love of long nails, Linny and Bo were simply having fun with them. Linny's website was featured in our article last month about the original nail websites of the internet and remembered very fondly by many.
We now has a Gone But Not Forgotten page commemorating people like Linny and Herb who once featured in these pages, it has a permanent home on the right side of the page.

One omission from last month's trip down memory lane was Apologies to Rich for leaving him out and for those that can remember that far back this is what it looked like. It was a magazine format and often featured great interviews with nail stars of the time.

The Politics of Long Nails

For those who like a little more deep thought with their long nails we'd like to recommend this article: Star-Spangled Fingernails: Florence Griffith-Joyner and the Mediation of Black Femininity published at

It gives an interesting take on the flaunting of long nails that goes beyond the usual "ooh! pretty!" reaction of most beauty articles. Plus there are some ooh! pretty! pictures of FloJo's nails along with the article.

FloJo is another face who appears in our Gone But Not Forgotten page on the right.

Focus on: Amy Navarro Carpio

Some women "get" nails and some don't. Amy Navarro Carpio from Peru certainly belongs to the former group tagging as she does many of her pictures with #nailporn.

Like a lot of young people she is prolific on many social media streams, and as well as the nails being natural and very attractive, she is also skilled in taking great photos of them to show off. Here are some examples and some links where you can find more of her work:

Blast From The Past: Annette (Nettie) from MySpace

Anyone remember this lady? A star from MySpace but nothing since then (and MySpace was a long time ago).

Nettie always seemed to be able to grow her nails very easily, but was not so keen on the attention they brought with them.
